Speakables for Skype works with Speakable Items, the FREE voice recognition software that is already contained in your Mac OS X computer. Speakable Items frees you from your desktop (or makes you look cool when sitting there) by letting you to control your Mac with simple voice commands. There are many common voice commands built in that you can already use right away, or create your own. To Get Started:

  1. Activate Speakable Items.
  2. To add a contact press the plus (+) sign. Select the person from the drop down list (highlighted left) or enter the person's skype name (or #) into that field.
  3. In the next field to the right, enter what you want to say to call them (eg. "Skype Jenny").
  4. To delete a contact, select it and press the minus (-) sign.

You can now Skype your friends
with your VOICE!

Note: To update your Skype contact list in Speakables' drop down list, click "Refresh Contacts" under File in the Speakables menu bar .

And, any time you want to see your command list, say "Switch to Speakables for Skype", and the Speakables will show your available commands.

Using Speakables for Skype:

  1. Open Skype and make sure Speakable Items is turned on. (Speakables for Skype does not need to be open to use its voice commands.)
  2. When Skype opens, you will see this dialog box. Select "Allow this application to use Skype." This prevents the dialog box from opening each time you use it.

Making Skype calls:

  1. After adding your skype contacts to Speakables for Skype, you can make calls anytime without opening Speakables for Skype, as long as Speakables Items is activated.
  2. To make a call, simply speak the command you chose for the person (eg. "Skype Kristy Hammond".)

Answering and Ending Calls:

  1. When a Skype call comes in, you can answer it by simply saying "Answer Call."
  2. To disconnect after you are done with your call, simply say "Hang Up."
  3. To change the command for answering or ending calls, click in the field and type in the desired command.

Announcing Calls:

To have Skype announce the caller, eg. "Incoming Call from Kristy Hammond":

1. Open Skype, and click "Skype" on the menu bar.
2. Click "Preferences" and "Events."
3. In the menu (right), select "Incoming Call" from the Event menu.
4. Put a check in the "Speak text" box.

Skype will now announce your caller by name. You can edit the phrase as desired.
